Miss
Jefferson County 2007
Maggie Spears
Maggie Spears is a student at Samford University where she is taking pre-med curriculum while working towards a bachelor of science degree in math. Her ambition is to obtain a degree in medicine in order to become a medical foreign missionary. While a student at Samford University, Maggie is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society, the Dean's List, and the Chi Omega Sorority where she is a Sisterhood Cardinal Cabinet Member. Also, she is the recipient of the Robert and Lois Cottle Scholarship, a Samford Academic Scholarship, a Samford Ministerial Scholarship, a Samford Math Scholarship, and a Samford Board of Aid Scholarship.
Maggie's platform is "Igniting the Torch of Service Through the Boys and Girls Clubs of America." Through her work with this organization, Maggie founded a program entitled "1-24" that is designed to encourage youth to go the extra mile in life. The program urges young people to do one good deed every twenty-four hours, above and beyond what is normal for them. Also, she taught a class called "SMART Girls" at a "Hub" club in the outskirts of Birmingham. Throughout these classes, Maggie included activities that would help the girls better understand how important volunteering is to everyone on every level. Aside from Maggie's work with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, she has served her community as a volunteer in various capacities including coordinating a Katrina Relief Food and Fund Drive and coordinating a Jimmie Hale Mission Fund Drive.
Piano performance will be Maggie's talent for Miss Alabama. She has had eight years of training which have given her great performing and pedagogical experiences.
